2020 Schedule Updates

As final as Covid allows

With the MAC schedules having been set we wind up with 126 teams participating in 1A for 2020. Connecticut, Old Dominion, Massachusetts and New Mexico State sitting this one out. The schedule requires six edges to connect the 64 teams that can be connected and the 52 teams that can't be will eventually be connected to their conference mates with at most two edges.

If we consider the connected and disconnected parts of the field separately, we get: Connected 1A

Through 10 October 62 of the teams in the eventually-connected set are connected to each other if you allow eleven edges. In addition to the Mountain West teams not named Air Force, Rice has yet to play having been unlucky with postponements and cancellations due to Covid protocol. The ISOV algorithm requires 263 iterations to get current ratings.

On the disconnected side, only the SEC has played any games. That subfield is connected at pathlength 4, and would've taken 76 iterations to get ISOV values accurate to two decimal places. Another 187 iterations doesn't change those values. The values are not terribly meaningful after 21 games, but this report provides some insight into how the algorithm combines records, SOS and scores to rate the teams.
